Do I Need Root Canal Treatment?
If you have a very deep cavity or a tooth infection, a root canal treatment may be necessary. Your tooth can become infected because of decay or damage that reaches the pulp, which is the blood vessels and nerves inside the tooth.
Root canal therapy may be necessary if you have some or all of these symptoms:
Swelling in the gums near tooth pain
Pimples on the gums that are recurring
Severe tooth pain while eating
Sensitivity to cold or hot food and beverages, even after eating
When possible, a root canal treatment is preferable to an extraction as it allows you to maintain your tooth.
After the root canal treatment is complete, a crown is commonly needed to protect the root canal treated tooth. Your dentist discuss your specific situation with you.
