About Our Dental Veneers for Fort Myers Patients
Plenty of Fort Myers patients have learned to smile with their lips closed. A chipped front tooth, a small gap, an uneven tooth or a shade that whitening never quite reached can make you hold back in photos and conversations. Many also hesitate because they aren't sure what veneers involve or what they will cost.
Dental veneers are thin coverings of porcelain or composite resin bonded to the front of your teeth. They can change the color, shape and size of your front teeth at the same time. Porcelain veneers are made by a dental lab from molds of your teeth, while composite resin matched to your natural enamel is shaped directly on the tooth and hardened with a special light. You can see veneer results in our Smile Gallery.
Your care starts with a consultation at our Elite Coral Dentistry office in Cape Coral, the family-owned practice Dr. Joseph Mejia has owned since July 2022. The dentist checks your teeth and gums, talks through what you want to change and explains every suitable option, including bonding or whitening where they would do the job. Veneers can also form part of a Full Smile Makeover, which can bring together veneers, take-home whitening, Invisalign, bonding and crowns in one plan.
- A choice of porcelain veneers, which are stronger and resist staining, or composite resin veneers, which preserve more of your natural enamel
- Color-matched to your smile for a natural look
- Chips, cracks, gaps, uneven teeth and discoloration that whitening hasn’t changed can all be covered
- Decay and gum problems treated first, so veneers sit on a healthy foundation
- Costs explained after your consultation, before any treatment begins
- Most PPO dental and PPO Medicare dental plans accepted (call to check your coverage), with CareCredit available
- Checkups and cleanings at the same office afterward, so the team that placed your veneers keeps an eye on them
How many visits do dental veneers take for Fort Myers patients?
Composite resin veneers can usually be completed in a single visit, because they are shaped directly on your teeth. Porcelain veneers typically take two: one to prepare your teeth and take molds, and one to bond the finished veneers once the dental lab has made them. If veneers are part of a Full Smile Makeover, the dentist sets out every visit in your plan at the start.
Should I choose porcelain or composite veneers?
It depends on the result you want and the condition of your teeth, and our article on myths and facts about dental veneers answers common questions. Porcelain veneers usually last longer, resist staining and suit crooked or misshapen teeth, gaps and cracks. Composite resin veneers preserve more natural enamel, tend to cost less and can suit stained or slightly chipped teeth, though they are more likely to break. Your consultation shows which option fits.
Can veneers fix chipped, stained or uneven front teeth?
Often, yes. Veneers can cover chips, cracks, small gaps, misshapen or uneven teeth and discoloration that whitening hasn't changed. They are used on the front teeth only. Veneers aren't always the answer, and bonding, a porcelain or ceramic crown, Invisalign or whitening may fit better. The dentist explains every option before you decide.
Expert Advice on Choosing Dental Veneers
These are the points we talk through with every patient who asks about veneers.
Porcelain Veneers: Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Stronger and more durable, and resist staining | A thin layer of enamel is removed, so the change can’t be undone |
| Can change color, shape and size at the same time | Typically two visits, because a dental lab makes each veneer |
| Color-matched to your other teeth for a natural look | Usually cost more than composite resin veneers |
| Usually last longer than composite resin veneers | Can crack, chip or loosen under pressure, such as biting ice or grinding |
What to Look For When Choosing a Provider
We'd suggest asking any practice these questions before you commit to veneers, and we're happy to answer them ourselves.
- Are my teeth and gums checked first? Decay and gum problems should be treated before veneers are placed, so the veneers sit on a healthy foundation.
- Will you show me every option? Dental bonding, crowns, Invisalign or whitening may fit some teeth better, and you shouldn’t have more veneers than you need.
- When will I know the cost? You should see what each part of your plan costs before any treatment begins.
- Do you check for grinding? Grinding or clenching can chip or loosen veneers, so it is assessed at your consultation and a night guard may be recommended.
- Who looks after them afterward? Regular checkups and cleanings protect your veneers and the teeth beneath them, and your veneers are checked at the same office where they were placed.
Teeth Whitening
Brighten the natural shade of teeth that have yellowed or dulled over time with professional take-home trays, ideally before your veneers are color-matched.
Invisalign
Straighten your teeth with Invisalign clear aligners, which may suit some smiles better than veneers.
Dental Crowns and Bridges
Restore a tooth with a porcelain or ceramic crown, made from strong, esthetic materials that match your veneers.
Dental Checkups and Cleanings
Protect your veneers and the teeth beneath them with regular checkups and cleanings, which help veneers last longer.

Veneers That Fit Your Working Life in Fort Myers
Fort Myers is the Lee County seat, and much of the region's professional, legal, financial and government work happens here. If your day is spent meeting clients, colleagues or the public, a smile you're comfortable showing makes those conversations easier.
That's why veneers are offered alongside general care here rather than as an add-on. The same practice that plans your veneers also handles your checkups and cleanings, so your cosmetic work becomes part of your long-term dental care. Appointments run Monday through Thursday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, and your plan is set out around your calendar.
Feeling sure about what you're agreeing to matters too. Spanish is spoken in many Fort Myers homes, and Dr. Joseph Mejia speaks English and Spanish, so your veneer plan can be talked through in either language.
You can ask about your veneer options, the steps involved and the costs in the language you're most comfortable with. New patients are always welcome.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Are dental veneers permanent?
A. Getting veneers is a change that can't be undone. A thin layer of enamel is removed from the front of each tooth so the veneer sits flat rather than bulky, though composite resin veneers preserve more of your natural enamel than porcelain. The dentist explains this at your consultation before you decide.
Q. How long do dental veneers last?
A. Most veneers last between seven and 15 years, and porcelain usually lasts longer than composite resin. Good care and regular dental visits help them last longer. Grinding or biting hard objects can chip or loosen them, so let the dentist know about either habit.
Q. How do I care for my veneers?
A. Brush and floss after meals and keep up your regular checkups, because plaque and decay can still form under or between veneers. Stick to soft foods for the first few days, and avoid ice and hard candy after that. If you grind or clench your teeth, the dentist may recommend a night guard.
Q. How much do veneers cost, and will my insurance help?
A. The cost depends on how many teeth are involved and what your plan includes, so it is explained after your consultation, before any treatment begins. Most PPO dental and PPO Medicare dental plans are accepted, so call (239) 542-4626 to check your coverage. CareCredit is also available to help spread the cost.
Q. Should I whiten my teeth before getting veneers?
A. Usually, yes, if you want a brighter smile overall. Veneers keep the shade they are made in. Brightening your natural teeth with professional take-home trays first lets the dentist match your veneers to the new shade, so your whole smile looks even.
