About Our Dental Implants for Fort Myers Patients
Many Fort Myers patients put off replacing a missing tooth because they don't know what it will cost. Insurance wording is hard to read, and nobody wants a large bill to arrive once treatment is already underway. Some also worry about being sold more work than they need, or being sent to a second office for one stage of the treatment.
A dental implant is a small titanium post placed in the jawbone where a tooth root used to be. Over the following months, the bone bonds to the post in a process called osseointegration. An abutment is then attached, and a porcelain or ceramic crown is fitted on top to complete the tooth.
At our Elite Coral Dentistry office in Cape Coral, implants are placed and restored in-house. Any bone grafting needed before an implant is done at the same office, so there is no separate appointment at another office on another day. Every plan starts with a consultation, an examination and X-rays to check whether you are a candidate for dental implants, and your options and costs are explained before anything begins.
- One team from start to finish: the implant and the final crown or denture are handled at the same office.
- Bone grafting in-house: if your jaw needs rebuilding first, the graft is part of the same plan.
- Costs explained up front: you hear what treatment involves and what it costs after your consultation, before treatment starts.
- Help with coverage: most PPO dental and PPO Medicare dental plans are accepted, and CareCredit is available.
- Natural-looking crowns: porcelain or ceramic crowns are strong, esthetic materials shaded to match your other teeth.
- Neighboring teeth left alone: a single implant stands on its own, so the teeth on either side don’t need reshaping.
- Support for the jaw: replacing the root helps reduce the bone loss that follows a missing tooth.
How do Fort Myers patients check whether their dental benefits cover implants?
The simplest way is to call the office at (239) 542-4626 and ask the team to check your coverage. The practice accepts most PPO dental and PPO Medicare dental plans, but each plan treats implant work differently. After your consultation, you receive an explanation of the treatment and its cost before anything begins. CareCredit is available if you want to spread the cost.
Is a dental implant or a bridge better for a Fort Myers patient missing one tooth?
It depends on your gum health, your bone density and your overall health. An implant replaces the root and stands on its own, so the neighboring teeth stay untouched. A bridge attaches to the teeth on either side, which means reshaping them for crowns. At your consultation, the dentist explains both options, along with other ways to replace missing teeth, so you can choose with the full picture.
How long does dental implant treatment take from start to finish for Fort Myers patients?
Implant treatment happens in stages, with healing time needed between them, so it can take many months. After the consultation and X-rays, the implant is placed and the bone is given several months to bond with it. If a bone graft is needed first, that adds its own healing period. Your plan sets out each stage, so you know what to expect.
What We Tell Patients Before They Choose an Implant
These are the points we cover most often with patients weighing up an implant.
Common Mistakes With Bone Grafting
- Waiting a long time after losing a tooth. After a tooth is lost, the bone inside the jaw begins to lose its density. Over time, this can mean you need a bone graft before an implant, so it helps to talk about replacement options early rather than waiting.
- Assuming a graft rules implants out. Hearing that you need a bone graft doesn’t always mean an implant is off the table. A graft rebuilds density in the jawbone so the implant has a strong and secure hold, and we carry it out at the same office.
- Skipping the X-rays. Whether you need a graft is decided with a thorough oral examination and X-rays, so your plan is based on how much bone is actually there.
Our View on Implants Versus Bridges
When a patient asks us to choose between an implant and a bridge, we start with their gums and bone. An implant replaces the tooth's root and can be as stable as a natural root, which helps reduce the bone loss that follows a missing tooth. A bridge fixes an artificial tooth to crowns placed over the natural teeth on either side, and it can stop those teeth from shifting.
An implant takes longer and can cost more, but implants are more durable, while a bridge can serve a patient well for a decade or longer with routine visits to check it for wear. You care for an implant with brushing, flossing and mouthwash, plus an interdental brush for hard-to-reach places under the crown. Neither is right for everyone, and we explain both before you decide.
Dental Crowns and Bridges
Cover a tooth with a crown, or fill a gap with a bridge, using porcelain or ceramic crowns, strong and esthetic materials shaded to match your natural teeth.
Dental Checkups and Cleanings
Keep the gums around your implant healthy with regular checkups and cleanings, where your implant and natural teeth are looked after together.
Root Canal Treatment
Save a painful tooth with root canal treatment done in-house by Endodontist Dr. Meghann Lussier, which removes infected or inflamed tissue from inside the tooth.
Dental Veneers
Veneers are part of our cosmetic dentistry and can be one of the treatments in a Full Smile Makeover, planned by the same team that looks after your implant.

Implant Coverage and Medicare Advantage in Fort Myers
Fort Myers is a city of working households and a large community of retirees. Many of the older residents among them hold Medicare Advantage plans that include dental benefits.
Those benefits can help, but they vary widely in how they treat implant work. Two neighbors with similar-sounding plans can find their coverage for an implant is not the same, so it pays to check before treatment rather than after.
That is why every implant plan for a Fort Myers patient starts the same way:
- A consultation, an examination and X-rays, so the dentist can see what your mouth needs.
- A clear explanation of your options and what each one costs, given before any treatment begins.
- A call to check your coverage. The office accepts most PPO dental and PPO Medicare dental plans, and the team can look at how your plan handles implant work.
If your plan leaves a balance, CareCredit is available to help you spread it. You know where you stand before the first stage is booked, so there are no surprises halfway through treatment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Will I need a bone graft before my implant?
A. Not always. A graft is needed when the jawbone is too thin or soft to hold an implant securely, which is more common when a tooth has been missing for a while. The dentist checks your bone on X-rays at your consultation. If a graft is needed, it is done at the same office before the implant is placed.
Q. What are implant-supported dentures?
A. An implant-supported denture uses dental implants in the jaw to hold the denture in place. It can be removable or fixed. For a full arch, the denture is supported by a minimum of four implants. The right number and type depend on your mouth, so book a consultation to see your options.
Q. How long does implant treatment take from start to finish?
A. It varies from patient to patient. Treatment moves through a consultation, any bone grafting, placing the implant, a healing period of several months while the bone bonds to it, and fitting the final crown or denture. Each stage starts once the last has healed, and your plan shows the sequence before you begin. Our implant aftercare guide explains what to expect after surgery.
Q. Can I text the practice with a question?
A. Yes. You can send a message to the text line at (941) 479-2183, which takes text messages only. It's a handy way to ask a question about your implant plan or request an appointment. To speak to someone, call the main office number, (239) 542-4626, Monday through Thursday, 8:00am to 5:00pm.
Q. Where is the office, and is there parking?
A. The office is at 1105 SE 47th Terrace in southeast Cape Coral, off Del Prado Boulevard South, and it has free on-site parking, with accessible parking near the entrance. The main entrance is step-free, which helps after an implant procedure when you may prefer to take things gently. New patients are always welcome.
