About Our Root Canal Treatment for Fort Myers Patients
Moving to Fort Myers often means starting your dental care from scratch. When a tooth begins to throb, you may have no dentist you already trust, no records on hand and no easy way to judge who to call. Many patients also worry about being passed from office to office, or being sold treatment they don't need.
Lingering pain, pain when you bite or chew, or a tooth that has chipped or cracked can all mean the pulp inside is inflamed or infected, and our guide to whether you need a root canal explains the common signs. When a tooth is referred on to a separate endodontist, it means a separate appointment at another office on another day while the tooth still hurts.
Root canal treatment saves a damaged or infected tooth by treating the pulp at its center, where the nerves and blood vessels sit. The procedure removes infected or inflamed tissue, then cleans, fills and seals the canals inside the root. Most treated teeth then need a crown or filling to protect them.
At our Elite Coral Dentistry office in Cape Coral, root canals are done in-house by Dr. Lussier, and we welcome endodontic referrals from other dentists. She works alongside Dr. Joseph Mejia, who has owned the practice since July 2022, so your checkups and your root canal stay with one team and one set of records. Before treatment begins, we explain what the X-ray shows and whether your natural tooth can be saved.
- Root canals by an endodontist, at the same office as your general care
- Treatment aimed at keeping your natural tooth wherever it can be saved
- A clear explanation of your X-ray and your options before treatment starts
- Porcelain or ceramic crowns, strong and esthetic materials, to protect the tooth afterward where one is needed
- Costs explained after your consultation, with most PPO dental and PPO Medicare dental plans accepted (call to check your coverage) and CareCredit available
- Care in English, French, Spanish or Cantonese with Dr. Lussier
Where can Fort Myers patients see an endodontist for root canal treatment without a separate referral?
At our Elite Coral Dentistry office in Cape Coral. Root canals there are done in-house by Endodontist Dr. Meghann Lussier, so a Fort Myers patient is examined and treated by the same team instead of arranging a separate appointment at another office on another day. New patients are always welcome, and dentists can send endodontic referrals to the practice too.
Can Fort Myers patients have the exam and the root canal at the same office?
Yes. Diagnosis and root canal treatment both happen at the same office, where Dr. Lussier works alongside Dr. Joseph Mejia. That means one consultation, one set of X-rays and records, and no separate appointment at another office on another day. Call (239) 542-4626 or send a message to our text line at (941) 479-2183 to make an appointment.
What should a new patient from Fort Myers expect at a root canal visit?
Your visit starts with new-patient paperwork, an examination and an X-ray of the tooth. Dr. Lussier explains what she finds, and you agree a pain-management plan with her before the tooth is numbed. The infected or inflamed tissue is then removed, and the canals are cleaned, filled and sealed. A crown or other restoration then protects the tooth so you can bite and chew normally again.
Root Canal Advice for Fort Myers Patients
Here is what we ask patients to think about before a root canal, and what to watch for once it's done.
What to Look For When Preparing for Your Root Canal Visit
- An appointment sooner rather than later: Don’t wait for the pain to settle, because it can still mean the pulp is inflamed or infected. Painkillers ease the symptoms but don’t treat the cause.
- Your insurance details: New-patient paperwork asks for your insurance information, so check your coverage under the plans we accept before treatment. Costs are explained after your consultation.
- Your questions for Dr. Lussier: Ask whether the tooth can be saved, and ask for a clear explanation of your X-ray, the cost and the restoration it will need afterward.
- Any worries about comfort: If you feel nervous, tell us, and our page on dental anxiety explains how we help. We agree a pain-management plan with you before we begin and take each step at a pace that feels comfortable.
Warning Signs to Watch for During Recovery
- Soreness that lasts: Some soreness and swelling are normal for a few days, and over-the-counter pain medication can help. If you still need painkillers after a couple of days, let us know.
- Pain that gets worse rather than easing: If the pain worsens or doesn’t subside, call the office right away.
- A bump on the gum or an unpleasant taste: An abscess can rarely develop after treatment, so these signs are worth having examined.
Until the tooth is fully restored, avoid chewing on it and keep your follow-up appointment. If you notice any of these signs, call (239) 542-4626 to make an appointment.
Dental Crowns and Bridges
Protect a tooth after root canal treatment with a porcelain or ceramic crown, made from strong and esthetic materials.
Dental Veneers
Veneers are part of our cosmetic dentistry, and you can ask about them once your root canal treatment is complete.
Dental Implants
If a tooth is too damaged to save, replace it with a dental implant that is placed and restored in-house, so your treatment stays with one team.
Emergency Dentistry
Get a severe toothache, a broken tooth or a lost crown assessed. If you are in severe pain, call (239) 542-4626 to make an appointment.

What an In-House Endodontist Means for Fort Myers Patients
Fort Myers is the seat of Lee County and the region's center for administration, business and healthcare, with the Caloosahatchee River between it and Cape Coral.
When a root canal is referred out, the handoff comes just when a tooth is already painful. A referral usually means a separate appointment at another office on another day, plus a second consultation and a second set of paperwork, while the discomfort carries on. At our Elite Coral Dentistry office in Cape Coral, Dr. Lussier carries out root canals in-house, so a Fort Myers patient is diagnosed and treated by the same team.
Life in Fort Myers also has its own seasonal rhythm, with the busiest months running from November to April. Keeping diagnosis, treatment and follow-up with one team means fewer appointments to fit around a crowded calendar, whatever the time of year.
Whether you've lived in Fort Myers for years or arrived last month, you can start with one call to (239) 542-4626 or a message to our text line at (941) 479-2183. New patients are always welcome.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What are the signs that I may need a root canal?
A. Lingering pain, sensitivity when you bite or chew, swollen or tender gums, a bump on the gum or a tooth that darkens can all point to an inflamed or infected nerve. These signs aren't always obvious, so an examination and an X-ray are the way to find the cause.
Q. Does root canal treatment hurt?
A. Many people expect a root canal to hurt. Before treatment, you discuss your pain tolerance with Endodontist Dr. Meghann Lussier and agree a pain-management plan, and the tooth is numbed with a local anesthetic before work begins. Some soreness for a few days afterward is normal, and over-the-counter pain medication can ease it.
Q. How long does root canal treatment take?
A. It varies from case to case, but most patients need one or two appointments of about 90 minutes each. Dr. Lussier also explains at the start whether the tooth will need a crown or filling to protect it afterward.
Q. Can my dentist refer me to Dr. Lussier for a root canal?
A. Yes. Root canals are done in-house by Endodontist Dr. Meghann Lussier, and we welcome endodontic referrals from other dentists. You are also welcome to contact us directly as a new patient without a referral.

A. Fort Myers patients visit our Elite Coral Dentistry office at 1105 SE 47th Terrace in southeast Cape Coral, off Del Prado Boulevard South. There is free on-site parking, accessible parking near the entrance, a step-free entrance and an accessible restroom.
